Multi-Session Class for Adults

Nature Journaling for Adults with Kiri Guyaz
Thurs., July 14, 21, and 28, 6-8pm; Fee: $60
Nature journaling can be a lifelong habit—it's a combination of observations and your sketches at the moment of what you see. If you have a blank sketchbook, please bring it; if not, we will use paper that you can compile later. Please bring small found objects such as feathers, seashells, small stones, leaves, and small bits of driftwood to start your nature journal with. If weather permits, we will go across to Castonguay Square for some plein air nature journaling.

Single Session Classes for Youth

Printmaking/drawing with Sandra Stewart
Thurs., July 7, 10am-12pm; Ages 8+; Fee $20
Come and have some fun with erasers, ink, pens, and colored pencils! See what hidden shapes our printmaking reveals, and how, by drawing and a bit of color, we can make them come alive!

Soap Carving with Marcia Berkall
Thurs., July 7, 10am-12pm; Ages 9+; Fee $20
Learn to create 3-dimensional figures using simple, safe tools like plastic knives, paper clips and clay tools. At one time soap carving was considered to be serious art with sculptures often used in advertising. Soap is a wonderful medium for children since it requires no sharp-edged tools. Children will learn how to make a pattern, transfer it onto the soap and carve it. Since the ability to perceive three dimensions is typically not developed until around the age of nine, there will be a minimum age of nine.

Rhythm and Beats Collage with Ann Rhinehardt
Mon., July 11, 10am-12pm; Ages 6-14; Fee $20
Students will create a collage in the manner of Henri Matisse using Music and Movement as a theme. Working with a variety of elements such as musical instruments, dancers and musical notes, students will arrange them in patterns creating a sense of movement on the page while listening to a variety of musical styles. Come and join us in making a joyful work of art!

Prehistoric Sea Creature Painting with Ann Rhinehardt
Tues., July 12, 10am-12pm; Ages 6-14; Fee $20
In this class, we will explore some creatures of the ancient oceans and students will design their own prehistoric fish and their homes using mixed media: watercolor, acrylics, pastel and collage. This class will let students really explore their imaginations!

Diorama: Make a 3-D bedroom with Heidi Pomerleau
Wed., July 13, 10am-12pm; Ages10+; Fee $20
Using “The Bedroom,” a painting by Vincent Van Gogh, as inspiration, create your own bedroom with paper, cardboard, clay and other sculpting materials. While creating these dioramas you will construct furniture, lay a carpet or design hard wood floors, decorate with your favorite colors, hang little posters, and lots of other options to design your miniature bedroom.

Sunset Silhouettes with Ann Rhinehardt
Thurs., July 14, 10am-12pm; Ages 6-14; Fee: $20
Everyone loves to watch sunsets and we are all fascinated with the silhouettes of the landscape in front of a magnificent sky. In this class, students will create their own sky of sunset colors and then design their landscape, choosing to make it realistic or imaginary. If you have a favorite image, bring it to class. Come explore your creative side!

Marbleizing with Kiri Guyaz
Mon., July 18, 10am-12pm; Ages 6+; Fee: $20
Marbleizing is a technique that creates interesting swirling shapes. Come learn how to marbleize paper—wear something you don't mind getting potentially messy! If you happen to have a blank sketchbook with a plain smooth white cover lying around, bring that with you and we can marbleize that too, but it is not necessary to bring one. Just bring your sense of fun!

“Starflower” Hangings with Kiri Guyaz
Mon., July 18, 1-3pm; Ages 6+; Fee: $20
Come learn a papercraft that makes an elegant paper creation that resembles a star, or a flower—thus, “starflowers!” Multi-colored papers will be used in the fashioning—your starflower can have as many colors in its petals as you want—and you will be able to hang it like a mobile to catch the air currents once we are finished.

Animals in Charley Harper Style with Kiri Guyaz
Tues., July 19, 10am-12pm; Ages6+; Fee: $20
Charley Harper, a beloved illustrator, simplified the natural world into its component geometric shapes and colors, and distilled the essence of the animal into precise, boldly-stylized, brightly colored designs. Come see his art and experiment with his style in your own portrayals of animals, first mapping out the design, then adding color. Please bring a few pictures of some of your favorite animals!

Mermaids and Sea Monsters with Kiri Guyaz
Tues., July 19, 1-3pm; Ages 6+; Fee: $20
Whether you dream of swimming as a mermaid or the sea-serpents and sea-monsters from the wild deeps, bring your dreams to life with a mix of paint and other media. How scary or how beautiful a sea-creature can you dream? Perhaps even create their undersea world?

Houses Made with Recyclables with Heidi Pomerleau
Wed., July 27, 1-3pm; Ages 6+; Fee: $20
Turn an empty milk jug into a garage, house, or one room school house. Bring toy cars, little people, and create the rest of the furniture and details from corks, spools, cardboard, and sculpting supplies.

Shadow Boxes with Heidi Pomerleau
Thurs., July 28, 1-3pm; Ages 9+; Fee: $20
Have you ever wanted to make a shadow box? Joseph Cornell was an artist who created shadow boxes with things he collected. Bring small me-mentoes, old cards, pictures of family or pets, to make it “your own.” Other odds & ends will be available as well.
